![]() Former Dimboola resident and athlete Emma Werner has been selected to compete in the hammer throw in the Oceania Games. Taking place in Cairns over three days from June 27 to 30, Emma will compete against top athletes from 22 athletics federations regions, including Fiji, New Zealand, Vanuatu and Papua New Guinea. Emma, along with her parents Trev and Fiona, are thrilled that she has been selected for the team after her continually high performances and personal bests in the event. “Throughout my whole life my parents and family have been supportive of my steps towards my goal, both big and small,” Emma said, “it is good to be able to see what all the hard work has accomplished. “When I found out I was very excited and very happy with the news,” she said. Emma will also be representing Victoria, WestVic Academy of Sport and the University of Ballarat at Athletics Australias winter throw events in Tasmania over the coming weeks. A student at the University of Ballarat, Emma will continue to train with the WestVic Academy of Sport. The Academys Manager of Sports Programs Kelly Dunn said that they are extremely proud of Emmas achievements during the short time she has been a part of the program. “We congratulate Emma on her achievement in being nationally recognised for her sport whilst also living away from home and undertaking full-time study,” Kelly said, “we wish her all the best as she travels to Cairns to reach her sporting potential.” Emma said that while she isnt nervous yet, she still has over a month before making the journey. “The nerves havent kicked in yet but there is still a little over a month to go, who knows what will happen. “No matter what happens in Cairns , I will be grateful for the experience and will be able to use the experience for next time,” Emma said. “Thank you to all that have been there and will continue to be there supporting me.
