![]() Jeparit's Janga Tuckerbag cafe and milk-bar owners Hayley and Gary Marks have become homeless following a fire that destroyed the Jeparit Newsagency and damaged their shop-residence last Thursday night. Hayley and Gary Marks of Jeparit can no longer live at their home which is located at the rear of their Roy Street cafe, Janga Tuckerbag. A result of the fire which destroyed the Jeparit Newsagency last Thursday night, the neighbouring business and residence owned by the Marks family received extensive damage. Their electricity supply has been cut, front windows broken, the roof is lifted and fire damaged, a shared boundary wall is also damaged, with smoke and water damage evident throughout the cafe and residence. Both Hayley and Gary along with their three children were in Melbourne organising the funeral of a relative when the fire occured, but had to cancel arrangements and return to Jeparit. They have since been staying at a motel in Nhill, awaiting advice from their insurance assessor. As a provider of emergency care response in situations where people find themselves displaced, the Hindmarsh Shire will be assisting with the cost of accomodation and is able to offer the Marks family advice with other assistance. Hindmarsh Shire Mayor, Cr Cliff Unger said he hopes that the Marks family will be able to find somewhere to live until their home is restored. Cr Unger said "We have to be thankful that everyone is okay and no one was injured as a result the fire." "We really hope that the newsagency and cafe get back up and running, so they can again provide those services to the residents of Jeparit." Hayley said "We can't do much here until we get advice from the insurance company, so we'll be returning to Melbourne in the next couple of days to take care of the funeral arrangements." "Hopefully by the time we get back, we'll have organised somewhere to live until our house and business is repaired." Source of this article :: Dimboola Courier |
