![]() The process to finalise the sale of 28,000ML of irrigation water to the Commonwealth Government is proceeding well. GWMWater and the Wimmera Irrigators Association wrote to all identified Wimmera irrigators by Registered Mail on Monday. The letter outlined the water volumes held by irrigators and the indicative value they would receive, assuming all irrigators support the proposal. The letter was requesting that irrigators indicate their support for the proposed sale by close of business on Monday 2 July 2012. The details of the offer were outlined at a meeting of irrigators held at Glen Logan on 14 June which was attended by approximately 130 irrigators. Managing Director Mark Williams explained that the offer from the Commonwealth was to purchase the entire 28,000 ML of irrigation water at a value of $900 per ML. The Commonwealth offer also included the $4.75 million required to decommission the channel network. "This means that all channels and structures will be returned to as close to their former state as possible, including repairs to any fences or roads caused during the decommissioning process. This alone will allay many concerns previously expressed by some irrigators" Mr Williams said. GWMWater has also confirmed that there will be no charges or exit fees deducted from the $900/ML on offer. "It is also important that any people who believe that they may have a claim to an irrigation water entitlement and have not received a letter from GWMWater contact us as soon as possible to have their claim registered so its validity can be assessed". "Even at this early stage we are getting a very positive response to the sale through the returns already received from irrigators and we are confident of a good outcome", he said.
