The Dimboola Football Netball Club Reserves have won through to the Wimmera Football League Second Semi Final against Horsham Saints after a strong win against the Horsham Demons on Saturday at Murtoa.
The Roos started with all guns blazing and leapt to a 20 point led at the first change. With Ash Avery, Jackson ONeill and Kieran Fraser driving the ball forward the Roos were constantly placing pressure on a young Demons defence. Small forward Darcy Dubois was proving a handful as he crumbed well and found space.
The second and third terms saw the Demons throw everything they had at the Roos. The Demons younger brigade of players were leading the charge against the Roos- creating space and opening the Roos up when they turned over the football. The Roos were kept in the game by the strong efforts of Avery and Fraser and the work of Simon Nuske who was able to hold WFL goal kicking legend David Johns to a single goal and the rebounding work of young defenders Michael Pohlner and Tim Walker.
With the game in the balance the Roos experience and passion came to the forefront. In a gutsy effort the Roos willed themselves over the line winning the contested ball and having the poise to kick three final quarter majors courtesy of Will Schilling, Darcy Dubois and Darren Jones.
Best player for the Roos was Michael Pohlner who with fellow youngster Tim Walker and Simon Nuske held the Demons forwards at bay. Other players in the best included the dominate Ash Avery, the effervescent Kieran Fraser and the reliable Jackson ONeill.
