Round five of the Dimboola and District Tennis Association saw many teams struggled to fill a side due to harvest commitments.

Dimboola and Yaapeet were the only teams to take to the court on Saturday as both Wallup and Jeparit forfeited to Rainbow and Arkona respectively.

Dimboola and Yaapeet were both missing quite a few of their regular players, but managed to have a great day out with many closely contested matches. Yaapeet took the upper hand in the mixed section 4-42 to 2-25, with Ruby Fisher comfortably defeating Madi Albrecht in the singles match 9-4, while Dimboolas Jayrell Guzarem and Karen Bridgewater were no match for Rhys Boehm and Maryanne Allen going down 9-1. Newcomer Darren Sexton provided Dimboola with some hope, teaming up with Rachel Baker claiming victory against Blair Edelsten and Gemma Roll 9-2, however husband and wife duo Rob and Becky Barry couldnt overcome Nathan Schorback and Cindy Roll going down 9-2.

In the womens section Dimboola only managed to claim victory in two of the six sets on offer, with both sets going to tiebreakers. Breanna Eldridge and Karen Bridgwater had a great hit out against Maryanne Allen and Gina Boehm eventually winning 9-8. While Emma-Lee Eastwell and Rachel Baker were lucky enough to beat Sheryl Herben and Gemma Roll 9-8 also. In other sets Yaapeet secured easy wins to take out this section 4-52 to 2-23.

The men battled it out and this section could have gone either way. Dimboola were very unlucky not to have won the two tiebreakers on offer, going down 4-38 to 1-37. John ODwyer and Dwayne McDonald had a good tussle against Ian Herben and Angus Robinson, but were unable to pull off a win, losing in a tiebreaker 9-8. The other tiebreaker saw Rhys Boehm and Nathan Schorback secure a win against Jayrell Guzarem and Rob Barry.

Dimboola misktakenly allowed Yaapeet to borrow Nathan Schorback for the day, who proved to be a handy pick up for them, claiming victory in all three of his sets. Other three set winners for Yaapeet included Ian Herben, Rhys Fisher, Ruby Fisher and Cindy Roll.

Final scores saw Yaapeet secure five match points, defeating Dimboola 12-132 to 5-85.

Next week Arkona will face Antwerp on Friday night, while Jeparit host Dimboola and Yaapeet play Wallup on Saturday. Rainbow have the bye.
