Organisers are putting together an inaugural event to showcase Dimboolas local producers and products to attract visitors and new residents to the area.

A food festival, scheduled for the weekend of Friday August 14, will feature a range of foods and wines to sample and purchase as well as ticketed events.

"We want to promote the Wimmera as a liveable area and attract people to the region," organiser Mary Clarke said, "we will run events from the Friday until the Sunday at a variety of locations around Dimboola. There will be organised walks through the Common, dinner under the stars, stalls, information, a dinner dance and barbecue, all to feature the produce we have specifically to our region."

Mary, along with a few other individuals, plans to make the food festival an annual event.

"We are still looking for other ideas, helpers and stall holders, so please let me know if you can assist in any way," Mary said.

While the food festival is being organised, changes will be made to Mason Clarke Coffee Roastery and Preserving Kitchen. The shop will be closed for several months while building alterations take place.

"We are looking to increase shop and production space, so will be making use of the old butchers shop next door," Mary said.

"The first thing to happen will be the removal of part of the dividing wall, giving more table space, privacy and a quieter atmosphere."

Eventually seating will extend into the former Rotary Square area, which will be landscaped.

The original shop will not face major changes, but the renovation will allow for business expansion, including more preserves and filling online orders.

The shop will be closed after trading on Monday April 13 until Friday September 4.
