It has been announced today that campuses of the West Wimmera Health Service will receive funding for upgrades to air conditioning and fire services.

Member for Western Victoria Jaala Pulford announced this morning that the Government had approved $748,000 of funding through the first round of the new Regional Health Infrastructure Fund.

This fund, of $200 million, is the largest of its kind in Victoria's history and aims to bring rural and regional hospitals up to a high standard.

Nhill Campus will receive $352,560 to replace their existing air conditioning system, while a further $396,003 has been approved to upgrade the fire detection systems at the Nhill, Natimuk, Rainbow and Jeparit campuses.

"I'm informed the current air conditioning system [at Nhill] is around 40 years old and the new system will provide energy efficient, individual units to each room," Ms Pulford said.

"The Government is very mindful that Victorians deserve the best health care facilities, no matter where they live."

The Victorian Budget 2016/17 provided an extra $2.45 billion for health so hospitals can admit more patients, reduce waiting times, upgrade buildings and infrastructure, and keep Victorians healthy.

"Our dedicated doctors and nurses at West Wimmera Health Service do a remarkable job and we are supporting them with better facilities," Ms Pulford said.

$1.2 million was also announced today for the Wimmera Health Care Group to upgrade technology and fire services at Dimboola and Horsham (click here to read).
