The Wimmera Health Care Group has received $1.2 million for upgrades to technology and fire infrastructure at the Dimboola and Horsham Hospitals.

The funding, made available through the first round of the new Regional Health Infrastructure Fund, was announced today by Member for Western Victoria Jaala Pulford.

Horsham and Dimboola campuses will share in $634,245 to upgrade medical records, telephone and ICT infrastructure.

Horsham will also receive $500,000 for the installation of fire sprinklers in the acute building.

A further $90,741 will pay for the replacement of the intensive care unit patient monitoring system at the Horsham campus.

The Victorian Budget 2016/17 provided an extra $2.45 billion for health so hospitals can admit more patients, reduce waiting times, and upgrade buildings and infrastructure.

The Regional Health Infrastructure Fund program, worth $200 million, is the largest of its kind in Victoria's history and aims to bring rural and regional hospitals up to a high standard.

Ms Pulford said that the Government is working to revamp rural and regional hospitals so that more patients in regional areas can be treated sooner and closer to home.

$748,000 was also announced today for the West Wimmera Health Service to upgrade services at Nhill, Rainbow, Jeparit and Natimuk (click here to read).
