Extra hour of sleep tonight as DST comes to an end
Daylight Savings Time ends this Sunday at 3am, meaning that clocks need to be turned back one hour prior to going to bed tonight.

Most smartphones will update their times automatically at 3am, however all clock radios and wall clocks will need to be manually adjusted.

The 2017-2018 daylight saving period will commence in Victoria on Sunday 1st October 2017, when clocks will go forward one hour at 2am. The conclusion of this period in 2018 is Sunday 1st April, when clocks will go backwards one hour at 3am.

Smoke Alarms
The CFA is also advising people that this is a good time to ensure that your smoke alarms are in good working order.

“While most people know to change their smoke alarm batteries at the end of daylight savings, many are unaware that smoke alarms themselves have an expiry date. We believe that some Victorians have never replaced their smoke alarms and that is concerning.”

All smoke alarms have a 10-year life span and need to be replaced or they may not work when you need them most.

There are over 3,000 preventable house fires in Victoria each year. Smoke alarms provide an essential early warning and time to evacuate safely - but only if they work!

Both CFA and MFB recommend photoelectric smoke alarms with a 10-year lithium battery in a tamper proof chamber.
