This week is the 28th annual National Volunteer Week, which will be celebrated with the theme "Give Happy Live Happy'.

Hindmarsh Shire Council will hold breakfast barbeques in the four main towns across the Shire to show their appreciation for our region's volunteers.

These events are a token of appreciation to volunteers to encourage a moment of "time out' and enjoy the fellowship of others who attend. They are a gesture to acknowledge the willingness of volunteers who provide time, energy and expertise to the many community projects and programs offered throughout the Shire.

Hindmarsh Shire Council Mayor Cr Debra Nelson said that "Council wishes to pay tribute to all the hardworking community members who give their time and effort volunteering in a broad range of activities across the Shire.

"National Volunteer Week provides an opportunity to show our appreciation for everything that volunteers do, irrespective of whether it is for a sporting club, the elderly, the environment or the community."

National Volunteer Week is a way of thanking volunteers and publicly acknowledging the work and essential role in our society that volunteers make. Volunteers are a vital part of the community, providing valuable resources and ensuring the sustainability of much needed services and resources in the community.

"As the need for volunteering grows, Council needs to acknowledge and recognise the contributions volunteers make to Hindmarsh and the broader communities," Cr Nelson said.

"There are many clubs and organisations that would struggle to survive without the contribution of volunteers."

"On behalf of Council, I'd like to thank each volunteer for their hard work throughout the year, and I hope that you're able to get along and enjoy one of the Volunteer Week events. Your contribution to our community is greatly appreciated," Cr Nelson said.
