Dimboola residents and visitors now have greater access to the Wimmera River with the installation of a new boating pontoon just upstream of the Wimmera Street Bridge, located next to the Riverside Holiday Park.

Contractor Ebaz P/L (who had previously installed fishing pontoons on the river at both Dimboola and Jeparit) installed the pontoon at the end of May.

Hindmarsh Shire Council Mayor Cr Deb Nelson was enthusiastic in her support of the pontoon, explaining that "the new boating pontoon will provide even greater access to the river, one of our major recreational and tourism assets for recreational boaters."

In addition to safer access to the river for recreational boaters, the pontoon will make the launching of kayaks easier. A dedicated kayak launch to the side of the main deck will allow users to position their kayak on the partially submerged deck before pushing off in to the river. Kayakers will also benefit from a more secure landing when they have completed their water adventure.

Funding for this project was provided by the Victorian Government's Boating Safety and Facility Program and Hindmarsh Shire Council.
