The West Wimmera Region Blue Lounge Social Club is holding a huge garage sale this Saturday at the Horsham Masonic Centre in Urquhart Street to raise funds for the Nhill Aviation Heritage Centre's Wirraway Project.

The sale, which will be held between 9 am and 3 pm on Saturday the 24th of June will feature bric-a-brac, furniture, antiques, collectables, plants and other items.

President of the Blue Lounge Social Club, Mr Rhys Webb, (pictured above outside the Horsham Masonic Centre) urges all Wimmera community members to come along and grab a bargain while supporting this great cause.

Mr Webb said if we can get this plane to Nhill, it would benefit the whole of the Wimmera as it will be a great draw card for people everywhere around Australia.

The aim of this project is to raise around $200,000 to see Wirraway number 722, one of only four airworthy Wirraway aircraft in Australia, become one of the exhibits at the Nhill Aviation Heritage Centre at the former RAAF training base at the Nhill aerodrome.

Wirraway 722 will be maintained to taxiing status but will not remain airworthy once it lands at Nhill as this is a stipulation of its purchase from Borg Sorenson, the man who rebuilt the aircraft from parts gathered up from all over the country with a lot of parts coming from the Wimmera. Borg wishes this aircraft to remain an example of Australian engineering for generations to come.
