Students and staff at Dimboola Memorial Secondary College commemorated Remembrance Day this afternoon.

As Remembrance Day falls on a Saturday this year the school recognised the event during the last twenty minutes of school today.

Incoming 2018 school captains Danni Haebich and Tristan Rayes both spoke at the service, which was held in the forecourt of the Memorial Building.

Danni spoke about the Battle of Beersheeba of late October 1917. While no Dimboola servicemen served in this battle, they were stationed nearby at the time.

Mrs Charlotte Pyers officiated the service and led the school in a minute of silence, before Tristan explained the significance of the red poppy for remembrance.

A town Remembrance Day service will be held tomorrow morning, Saturday 11th November, from 11am at the Dimboola RSL in Lloyd Street.
