Dimboola firefighters will be safer this fire season thanks to the generosity of the Dimboola Lions Club.

The Club recently donated the amount of $2500 enabling the Dimboola Urban Fire Brigade to purchase eight new state-of-the-art UHF radios for use across a variety of firefighting scenarios.

Captain of the Dimboola Urban Fire Brigade, Ashley Wallace, thanked the Dimboola Lions Club, saying that the radios will enable firefighters to maintain contact when operating on the fire ground, helping them stay up to date with events as they occur.

"With all that's happening during a fire it can sometimes be difficult for firefighters to keep abreast of everything that needs to be done, and potential or emerging hazards like firefighting aircraft, weather changes or dangerous trees.

"The new radios will help our firefighters communicate with each other, particularly when out of sight of each other or firefighting vehicles, increasing their awareness of what's happening around them," Captain Wallace said.

"We're grateful to the Dimboola Lions Club and their ongoing support of our efforts to keep the local community safe."
