A small earthquake was experienced this afternoon in the Big Desert, north of Yanac, which was the third in the area in the last two weeks.

The first two were recorded in the early hours of Saturday 6 January and had a magnitude of 2.5 and 3.2 on the Richter scale respectively. These were centred in an area north west of Lake Albacutya.

Today's tremor occurred north of Yanac at around 3.20 pm and was slightly weaker at 2.1 on the Richter scale.

All three occurred in the Big Desert and no injuries or damage have been reported.

Another small tremor was felt near Birchip late last year on 23 December which measured 2.4 and also did not result in any reported damage.
