Quick action by residents and CFA volunteers on Sunday afternoon prevented a fire in Muller Street from causing damage to the Scout Hall or spreading to nearby scrub or dry grass.

The fire started around midday and neighbouring residents were able to keep it under control before CFA crews from the Dimboola and Pimpinio brigades arrived and quickly extinguished the blaze. A further two crews responded but were not required.

Unlawful entry was gained to the storage shed behind the Scout Hall, and matches and accelerant were tampered with. This caused a fire that ignited dry grass outside the shed which burned the area between the shed and the Scout Hall as well as grass along the east side of the Hall.

Police have interviewed three teenagers from Dimboola in relation to the fire.

Detective Senior Constable Neale Roberts from the Horsham Police investigated the scene and noted the poor timing of the incident, considering the high fire danger on Saturday and the disastrous fires in the state's south-west which started on the weekend and are still burning.

The investigation is continuing.
