With fine weather forecast, plenty of water in the river and over $4,000 in cash plus prizes on offer, the annual Jeparit Fishing Contest this weekend promises to be another successful event.

The prize list is headed by $2,000 and $1,000 prizes for the heaviest two fish respectively caught by a senior angler, and $500 and a swag for the winner of the junior section. Other prizes include $200 for the heaviest carp and $100 for the Kevin Humphreys Memorial mystery weight prize.

In total the senior section has a list of five prizes, the juniors are competing for a share of ten prizes and even the heaviest two carp caught by both seniors and juniors will earn some cash.

Anglers can register at the Jeparit Anglers Club rooms at the golf club in Lake Road from midday to 6 pm today (Friday) or from 6.30 am onwards on Saturday morning.

The competition runs from 7.30 am to 3 pm on Easter Saturday, with the prize winners announced and presented at the clubrooms soon after 3 pm.

Fishing can occur between the boat ramp near the tennis courts in town and the boat ramp at the ski club near the river mouth and can be done from the banks only with no boats allowed. A map on the club's website outlines where fishing can be conducted.

This is one of the three big fishing events in the Wimmera, along with the Dimboola Classic in November and the Horsham Fishing Competition on the long weekend in March.
