A good crowd gathered at the Dimboola Sound Shell on Friday night for Carols by Candlelight, despite a questionable weather forecast.

Organisers were determined not to let the weather get in the way of the festivities after last year’s event was cancelled due to wet weather.

The evening’s music began with a selection of carols performed by the Nhill Dimboola Band, before students from the Dimboola Kindergarten took to the stage to perform Jingle Bells, Twinkle twinkle little star, and Sleeping Bunnies.

Voices of the Wimmera followed performing a selection of songs including Mary’s Boy Child.

The popular combination of Sharyn Cook, Des Lardner, Ann Falkingham, Becky Barry and her girls then sang to music performed by the Band.

Students from both the Lutheran School and Primary School performed in separate acts, which was followed by a dance routine by three students. The Girl Guides performed the always popular Australian Christmas song “Six White Boomers”.

Carly Werner sang two songs and acknowledged how she enjoys the chance to celebrate Christmas in her hometown.

Becky Barry, pictured below, performed “O’ Come All Ye Faithful” and “War is Over” on the guitar, supported by her daughters.

After the formal acts were over everyone eagerly awaited the arrival of the man in red – seeing Santa arrive on the back of a fire truck.

To close the evening all the children were invited back onto the stage to sing “We Wish You a Merry Christmas” – and to burn off some of the energy from the lollies Santa had just given out.
