The West Wimmera Warrior’s search for winning form continues after the A grade team succumbed to the dominant Homers and the B grade team conceded their latest game to Quantong.
A grade
For the third time this season the A grade Warriors faced off against Homers, who once again showed why they are leading the competition when they finished with a comfortable 151 run victory.
Batting first, Homers’ Simon Hopper scored his second century this season against the Warriors with 111 which guided his team to a total of 284 for the loss of 8 wickets in their 40 overs.
The leading bowler was Liam Preston with 2 for 19, with three others taking one wicket each, and Tim Braendler effected a run out to end Hoppers’ innings.
In reply Michael Preston and Ash Dickinson got the Warriors off to a strong start with a 25 run opening stand, but the loss of 7 wicket for only another 30 runs dramatically curtailed the innings.
A 41 run partnership between Adrian King and Luke Smith for the ninth wicket, and another undefeated of 36 between King and Jack Crowhurst for the last wicket gave the innings some respectability but was not enough to match Homers total.
King finished not out on 54 and Preston made 22 to be the main contributors to the total of 9 for 133 off their 40 overs.
Next week Horsham Saints, who currently sit in second place on the ladder, will provide another tough challenge for the Warriors when they visit Davis Park next weekend.
B grade
Due to a lack of available players, the B grade team was forced to forfeit their game against Quantong, but they have their best opportunity so far this season to earn their first points when they take on Jung Tigers.
This opponent is also yet to taste victory this season, and the winner of this game will remain in the race for the finals, but the defeated team will struggle to significantly influence the competition for the remainder of the season.
The game will be played on the Dimboola Road oval in Horsham.
