Both of the senior Blackheath-Dimboola cricket teams remain in the top four of their respective competitions after mixed results on the weekend.

In the B grade the Bulls were able to hold off Lubeck-Murtoa for a close six run victory whilst in C grade finished eleven runs behind against the quality opposition of Homers.

B grade

After winning the toss Blackheath-Dimboola chose to set a target, and courtesy of 27 by Michael McGough and scores in the teens by five of his team mates, when they were bowled out just short of their 40 overs their total was 131.

Lubeck-Murtoa made a strong start to the run chase, and were on target throughout their innings, but the Blackheath-Dimboola bowlers were able to take regular wickets, and with four overs remaining, the last batsman was dismissed 7 runs short of the target.

Chris Ross took four wickets, Dwayne McDonald and Sam Polack took two each and C Hauselberger took one.

In the field Joel Tully held four catches and ross and Robert Sommers took one each.

This win keeps the team in second place on the ladder and with a T20 match against the sixth placed Horsham Saints on the Horsham City Oval next Saturday they have the chance to consolidate their place in the top two going into the Christmas break.

C Grade

The C grade Blackheath-Dimboola cricketers took on the challenge of facing the team immediately above them on the ladder, and they proved that they can match it with the leaders after a narrow eleven run loss.

Homers took the opportunity to set a target and finished with 197 for the loss of 8 wickets in their 40 overs. Six Blackheath-Dimboola bowlers shared the wickets, with Darren Sexton and Jade Clark too two each.

In the reply James Barry (59 not out) and Peter Frecker (56 not out) both finished not out with half centuries and Greg O’Connor contributed 24, but the team was still 11 runs short after the last ball was bowled.

Despite this close loss, Blackheath-Dimboola remain in fourth place, equal on points but with a superior percentage to Colts, their next opponent.

A win will see the team remain in the top four going into the second half of the season after the Christmas break whilst a loss will see them slip down to fifth place.
