Haystack fire near Jeparit
The Country Fire Authority issued a Community Information Message earlier today in relation to a hay stack fire on the Tullyvea Bus Route Road five kilometres south of Jeparit on the west side of the Wimmera River.

The fire was first reported at around 4.30 this morning and when the first firefighters arrived on the scene soon after it was too late to save any of the hay but they were able to prevent it spreading to an adjacent stubble paddock.

Firefighters have spent the day pulling apart the burning hay to help extinguish the fire.

Smoke will continue to be visible, particularly in Jeparit and surrounding areas, but it there is currently no immediate threat to residents and no action is required.

It is anticipated that smoke will continue to be visible into tomorrow.
