Summer is still here and is today reminding is what it is capable of with Horsham expecting a top of 44°C, the Wimmera experiencing a day of ‘Severe’ fire danger, and the whole state being subject to a Total Fire Ban.

All of this has seen the Department of Health and Human Services issue various Heat Health Alerts for the state this week, including for the Wimmera today and tomorrow.

These health heat alerts are a way of reminding Victorians to make sure that they keep cool, keep hydrated, and care for pets and animals.

The Better Health Channel says that hot weather is not something to take lightly.

“Heat kills more Australians than any natural disaster.

“Extreme heat can affect anybody. Heat can cause illnesses such as heat cramps and heat exhaustion which can lead to the life-threatening condition, heatstroke. Heatstroke is fatal in up to 80% of cases.

“Those most at risk are older people, young children and people with a medical condition.”

Let’s all try to stay cool and make sure that our family members (human and canine/feline/…) remain cool and well hydrated.

At the time of writing, the forecast top temperatures for Horsham are
Tuesday 15th - 44°C
Wednesday 16th - 42°C
Thursday 17th - 38°C
Friday 18th - 31°C (possible shower)

We’re looking forward to the ‘cooler’ weather on Friday!
