For the first time in many seasons, two senior competition games were played at the Dimboola Recreation Reserve on Saturday with the C grade cricketers playing the first game on the new pitch on the Les Howland Oval and the B grade hosting a game on the main ground.
B Grade
The B grade Bulls took on the Jung Tigers in the first day of a two day encounter and they chose to bat first, which proved to be a productive decision, with opener Trent McGough scoring a solid 71 and Daniel Polack also making a half century with 53, contributing the most runs to the team’s total of 172.

Other double figure scores included 11 by John Polack and 10 by Sam Polack.
The Tigers then faced 9 overs at the end of the day, and after Robert Sommers dismissed one of their openers, they will start the second day next weekend on 1 for 8.
The Bulls need to take a further 9 wickets next Saturday, before their opponents score another 165 runs, to take the victory and consolidate their place in the top four.
C Grade
Senior cricket returned to the Les Howland Oval for the first time in many seasons when the C grade team welcomed the Rupanyup-Minyip team to their new home ground on Saturday.
The visitors were invited to bat first and took full advantage of the size of the ground and scored quickly to end up with 210 for the loss of 5 wickets at the end of their allocated 40 overs.
Two Rupanyup-Minyip batsmen retired upon reaching 50, and there were scores of 35 and 25 in the middle order.
The best of the Bulls’ bowlers were Michael Polycarpou who finished with three wickets for just 11 runs off six overs and Brent Tough who took two for 18 off his six overs.
In the field Heath Mibus held two catches and wicket keeper Charles Rees took one.
The loss of wickets in pairs throughout the Bulls’ innings did not allow them to gain any momentum which prevented them from forming any significant partnerships early.
The biggest partnership was for the last wicket to which Brent Tough contributed 47 without being dismissed.
When the last wicket fell at the end of the 29th over the team only had 118 on the scoreboard, giving a 92 run first innings loss, but they still remain firmly in the running for a place in the finals.
Next week the local team has the bye, so they will next take to the field on February 9 when Laharum will visit the Les Howland Oval.
