Another half century to Mitch Dahlenburg was not enough to get the A grade Warriors over the line against Jung Tigers, and despite some solid batting by the B grade team, they too fell short of their target against Horsham Saints in their most recent games in the Horsham Cricket Association.
A Grade
The A grade Warriors played their last one day game for 2018/19 when they welcomed Jung Tigers to Davis Park for the second time this season, and will now need to revert to two day mode for the three rounds.
After being asked to field first, the Warriors made a confident start, dismissing both Tigers’ openers by the time they had 25 runs on the board, but a 78 run partnership for the third wicket between Brett Jensz and Angus Adams set the foundations for a challenging score.
A flurry of wickets towards the end of the innings prevented the Tigers from passing 200, restricting them to 191 for the loss of seven wickets.
Josh Lees and Tim Braendler took two wickets each, and Brad Keller and Jack Crowhurst took one each
Tight bowling by the Tigers’ bowlers kept the scoring rate low during the Warriors’ innings but Mitch Dahlenburg continued his good form adding an unbeaten score of 52 to the 51 not out he made two weeks ago.
The next best scores in the innings were 28 by Braendler and 14 by Adrian King.
At the end of their 40 overs the Warriors only had 131 runs on the board for the loss of six wickets, still 60 runs short of their target.
The A grade Warriors have played their last one day game for the season and will now need to revert to two day mode for the three rounds.
Next week they will travel to take on Rupanyup-Minyip at Minyip and whilst they will need a significant swing in form to challenge for a place in the finals they are still in a position to make it difficult for those who can.
Rupanyup-Minyip are in fourth place but still need at least one win to confirm a place in the semi finals so this could be a danger game form them as they need the win but the Warriors have nothing to lose and could cause an upset.
B Grade
The B grade West Wimmera Warriors resumed their game against Horsham Saints at 1 for 18 in pursuit of 144 for victory, with a maximum of 80 in which to score the 125 runs required.
Requiring only just over one and a half runs per over the Warriors slowly chipped away at the target but a couple of early wickets kept the pressure on the batsmen.
Darcy Bullen anchored a number of important partnerships through the middle of the innings, with the most productive yielding 23 runs with Sunil Sharath who contributed 13.
Bullen was eventually dismissed for an innings high score of 19 and was replaced by Judd Spokes (above) who came in at number nine and contributed an swift 14.
The others to make it into double figures were opener Steve Graham with 13 and last batsman dismissed, Steve Leach with 11.
At the fall of the last wicket the Warriors had passed the century but were still 36 runs short of the target.
Next week Round 12 will commence with the first day of a two day game that will have the Warriors face the daunting task of taking on the ladder leading Colts on the turf wicket at Dudley Cornell Park in Horsham.
