Both Warriors teams travelled for the second day’s play in their latest games in the Horsham Cricket Association but neither enjoyed much success.

A Grade

At Minyip the Warriors resumed their first innings against Rupanyup-Minyip at 5 for 32, with the daunting task of overhauling the home team’s first day score of 5 (declared) for 203.

Not out batsman Brad Keller did not add to his four runs made at the end of the day last Saturday, and Josh Lees only added two before he was also dismissed.

The highlight of the innings was an unbeaten score of 21 by Adrian King, who along with 18 sundries contributed the bulk of the runs. Michael Preston’s 12, made on the first day, was the only other individual score above 5 in the team total of 82.

When asked to bat again, King opened the innings and continued his good form with 16 more runs before his was caught and bowled by his former team mate at the Jeparit club, Victor Lothian.

Fellow opener Preston remained not out on 33 at the end of the innings, and once again sundries with 25 was the only other double figure score.

At the end of the allotted overs for the day the Warriors had denied Rupanyup-Minyip an outright victory when they held on to finished with 8 for 90.

Next week the Warriors will welcome Horsham Saints back to Davis Park in Nhill for the third time this season, for the first day of their next two day encounter.

B Grade

The B grade Warriors did not fare much better when they took to the crease at Dudley Cornell Park in Horsham for the second day of their game against Colts.

Chasing a target of 202, which was set by the home team last week, the Warriors struggled from the start.

The first three batsmen fell cheaply, and whilst the next two batsmen made it into double figures, Bailey Zimmermann with 18 and Jack Crowhurst with 10, they were the only ones to do so. The next best was 8 by Shane Gusman.

Although the innings lasted into the 49th over, the scoring rate was just over one run per over so when the last wicket fell the team had only made a total of 53.

Having not passed the follow on target in their first innings, the Warriors were invited to bat again for the remining 16 overs of the day’s play.

Openers Gusman (12) and Trevor James (26 not out) were the major contributors to the second innings total of 2 for 46.

Next week the Hindmarsh derby will commence on the main oval at the Dimboola Recreation Reserve when the West Wimmera Warriors meet the Blackheath-Dimboola Bulls for the first day of their two day game.

With the former team currently in last place, and the latter comfortably in third, the Warriors have nothing to lose and the Bulls will be anxious to perform well as they prepare for the finals.
