Friday 15th March:

Volunteers from the Dimboola Urban Fire Brigade will be conducting the planned burn along the rail corridor from 5.30pm, weather permitting.

Don’t forget to close your windows and make sure your washing is off the line if you live in the area.

A fuel-reduction burn is planned for the railway corridor through Dimboola this Friday.

Residents in and around Dimboola are advised that they are likely to see or smell smoke during the day on Thursday.

Lindsay Barry, CFA Operations Officer District 17, said that the burn is planned to provide a strategic break through the town which would aid in the protection of the community in the event of a fire.

“This annual strategic burn will aid in the removal of native fairy grass that has built up due to the early summer rains,” he said.

Over coming days, members of the Dimboola brigade will also be door knocking residents living close to the railway line where the planned burn will occur. Residents will be able to discuss any concerns or issues they may have.

There are no road closures planned, however there may be impacts to traffic movements during the time of the burn.

The community is also reminded that the Fire Danger Period remains in force and that no fire can be lit in the open air without a permit.

People with asthma or other conditions that make them susceptible to the effects of smoke are advised to consider staying indoors, reducing their exercise, taking their medications and following their asthma plan. Those experiencing symptoms should seek medical advice or contact Nurse-On-Call on 1300 606 024.
