Despite falling short in the C grade semi final on Saturday, the Blackheath-Dimboola C grade team still showed great improvement over recent seasons, and enjoyed their best season since their last premiership six years ago.
For the second week in a row the Bulls faced Homers, this time on the Horsham College Dimboola Road Oval, to play for a place in the grand final.
Making the most of their decision to bat first after winning the toss, the Homers’ batsmen set about amassing a formidable target.
Three batsmen were compelled to retire after reaching fifty and three others added valuable double figure scores towards the end of the innings to finish their allotted overs with 248 runs for the loss of four wickets.
These four wickets were shared between Michael Henderson, Brent Tough, Darren Sexton and Philip Merrett who took one each.
The Bulls’ run chase never really took off, with only two partnerships reaching double figures, with Brent Tough contributing 25 runs in the middle of the innings and Nathan Schorback remained not out on 10 at the end, but with no other scores above 8, the team finished short of the target.
Despite not qualifying for the ultimate game of the season, the C grade Bulls put in a magnificent effort throughout 2018/19 to make it to the finals for the first time in six seasons.
The grand final in this grade will be played next weekend when Homers will take on Colts on the Horsham College Dimboola Road Oval in a one day game, starting at 1.00 pm on Saturday afternoon.
