Several new mobile phone towers were announced last week as part of Round 4 of the federal government’s Mobile Black Spot Program.

Round 4 of the program will see a total of $21.7 million invested in mobile infrastructure in Victoria. This includes $6.5 million funding from the Commonwealth and $5.8 million from the Victorian Government.

Senator Bridget McKenzie acknowledged when making the announcement the vital nature of reliable communications in regional communities.

“Greater availability of mobile services is a big deal. It means staying safe in remote areas, keeping in contact with family and friends, unlocking access to online health and education services as well as increased tourism and business opportunities.”

This round of funding will provide 32 new towers in Victoria, with the ones in our wider region being at:

Bellfield - Optus
Grampians Road (Halls Gap to Dunkeld) - Telstra
Langkoop - Telstra
Mooralla - Telstra
Telopea Downs - Telstra
Toolondo - Optus
Wilkur - Telstra
Yanac – Telstra

Member for Lowan Emma Kealy has welcomed the announcement.

“I look forward to seeing these communities enjoy the benefits that improved mobile telephone service will deliver for many years to come,” she said.

Base stations funded under Round 4 of the Program are scheduled to be operational by 30th June 2020.
