The Australian Electoral Commission is reminding Australians that the deadline to make sure that you’re on the electoral roll – and that your details are correct – is 8pm tonight.

The reminder is also going out to anyone who turns 18 before the election on Saturday 18th May that they need to ensure that they have enrolled.

People who are currently on the roll but have moved house in the past three years also need to take action to update their details by tonight’s deadline.

The Electoral Commissioner, Mr Tom Rogers, said that all Australian citizens aged 18 and older are required by law to enrol and vote in the election.

“We’ve had hundreds of thousands of enrolment transactions submitted since the election was announced and there are now only hours left for people to sort out their enrolment,” Mr Rogers said.

“If they’re not on the roll, they’ll need to complete an enrolment form as soon as possible today and get it to the AEC before the deadline of 8pm.

“The quickest and easiest way to join the roll or update your details is by completing the online enrolment form immediately.”

You can do this, and check your details, at the AEC’s website – www.aec.gov.au.
