Rainbow Desert Enduro is set to see record competitor numbers with 55 crews entered in the final round of the Australian Off Road Championship competition which will be held on August 9-11 in Rainbow.

Many of the competitor names listed are returning crews from the previous two years including last year’s winner Shannon Rentsch in his Pro Buggy.

Extreme 2WD’s Justin Watt and Greg Gartner will return to Rainbow which will be popular with the crowd as they fly over the finish line jump between each lap.

The Rainbow Desert Enduro will see competitors travel more than 500 kilometres along the tough desert track over two days of action as they drive the 75 kilometre track seven times across the weekend.

The event is known as being one of the toughest events in Australia due to the harsh conditions of the track, especially when the rain falls on the track creating mud for drivers to contend with.

Rainbow is ready to host the event for the third time with the town putting on a party-like event on Friday night with the main street being closed to traffic as the onlookers can watch the scrutineering process and take a closer look at the race cars as they line the street.

Local community members are also planning on having a vintage car display for those interested in taking a closer look at some rare cars.

The racetrack is shaping up nicely with the rain settling down the dust. The local committee have been working hard to get the main site ready for the spectators, with upgrades on the main spectator site on Bow Hill to help everyone enjoy the race.

At the GrainCorp Bow Hill site, less than one kilometre west from the township, people will find a fully run site with a range of food and beverage options, run capably by local committees.

Anyone who would like to help out over the weekend, either with selling gate tickets, recovery, 4WD recovery tow vehicles and many other jobs across the weekend can call VORRA President Tony Carabott on 0422 887 333.

The Rainbow Desert Enduro is the BFGoodrich CAMS Australian Off Road Championship’s season finale as well as the CAMS Victorian Off Road Championship and the Victorian Off Road Club Shield.
