Another score in the nineties by Mitch Dahlenburg led the way to the B grade West Wimmera Warriors to keep their unbeaten 20196/20 record intact with a win over the Horsham Saints, but the C grade team fell short against Colts.
The Blackheath-Dimboola A grade team’s encounter with the Bullants was one of several games abandoned due to the weather across all grades.
On Davis Park in Nhill, Dahlenburg continued his prolific start to the season with 93, which was his second score in the nineties to go with one century and one other half-century in his four innings so far this season.
Dahlenburg anchored two big partnerships which allowed the team to register a total of 220 off their 40 overs for the loss of just four wickets. He opened the innings with Nathan Alexander who contributed 67 runs to the partnership of 116, and Ben Pollock made 32 of a stand of 94 for the second wicket.
In reply, the Horsham Saints were kept in check by some tight bowling from the openers, with Josh Lees finishing with 3 for 32 and Nathan Alexander with 2 for 24 off eight overs each.
Jordan Gurry, Time Braendler and Josh Cramer all chipped in with one wicket each to restrict the Saints to 135 for the loss of eight wickets by the end of their overs.
At Sir Robert Menzies Park in Jeparit, the C grade West Wimmera Warriors batted first and the highlight of the innings was a 49 run stand between Darcy Bullen (28) and Jack Crowhurst (22), but Steve Leach with 13 was the only batsman to make double figures.
The last wicket fell in the 38th over with the score at 99.
Despite the modest target, Colts struggled early after being reduced to 3 for 29 in the face of some tight bowling by Dan Cross (3 for 12 off 8 overs), but a couple of partnerships in the middle order kept the scoreboard ticking over and by the 31st over the winning runs were scored.
Trevor James and Crowhurst took the other two wickets to fall.
Next Saturday will see the start of the first two day games for the season when the B grade Warriors will again take on the Horsham Saints, but this time it will be on their ground at Coughlin Park in Horsham, whilst the C grade team will enjoy a weekend off with the bye.
In the A grade, the Blackheath-Dimboola Bulls will welcome the Jung Tigers to the Dimboola Recreation Reserve for the first day of their first two-day game.
