A great weekend for Dimboola weekend pennant sides with both first division and second divisions having important victories.

First Division played the strong Horsham City 1 side who were after revenge after Dimboola bundled them out of last year’s finals.

It was a close game all day with Dimboola having one big winning rink and one rink having a big loss and the other rink having a close win.

The team of Geoff Gazelle, Greg Cook, John Moar, and Darryl Argall had a great 26 shot win winning 39 to 13 but this victory was cancelled out by the 16 to 43 loss by the team of Alan Krahe, Wayne Albrecht, Rob Clark, and Josh Cook.

The team of Peter O’Loughlin, Judith Albrecht, Ron Gaulke, and Merv Roberts were then able to hang on for a narrow 4 shot victory, 25 to 21, which gave Dimboola a 3 shot win, this gave Dimboola 14 points and will keep them on top of the ladder.

Second Division also had a close game against their Sunnyside opponents which they won by 4 shots.

The team of Ric Danisch, Daniel Danisch, Bill Ballard and Shannon Williams had a big 14 shot win, 31 to 17, and Bryan Beattie, Bob Gooding, Max Walker, and Alex Orcsik also had a good 22 to 18 win, but the team of Cliff Unger, Frank Neagle, Ian McRae, and Don Hallam went down by 14 shots, 17 to 31.

This is the Second Division team’s second win for the year; but hopefully, there will many more.

Congratulations go to Shannon Williams who has won the Wimmera Region Novice singles and will now represent the Wimmera against other winners from surrounding regions.

Next week there will be no pennant matches, but that does not mean a rest from bowls, as on Saturday will be the Club Triples Championship. Any members wishing to participate are encouraged to place their name on the board before 5:00 pm Friday.

On Sunday the semi-finals and finals of the Club Single Championships for both Men and Ladies will be played.

In the Ladies semi-finals Lorraine Ross will take on Mary Argall and in the other game, last year’s champion Judith Albrecht will play Carolyn Crowhurst with the two winners playing for the championship.

In the Men’s, last year’s winner Geoff Gazelle will play one of younger bowlers Josh Cook and in the other semi we have Alan Krahe will take on Rob Clark.

The semi-finals will start at 10:00 am and the finals will begin at 2:00 pm.

All members are encouraged to support these players and enjoy a barbeque and presentations after the finals.
