Ladder positions in Dimboola and District Tennis Association have tightened after round six action on Friday night and Saturday.

Ladder leaders Warrack Gold took on seventh-placed Arkona at Dimboola on Friday night and Arkona took things up to the front runners right from the get-go, winning the first set in a tight one, 9-7.

There was some entertaining tennis played in the mixed section, but Arkona came out in front four sets to two.

They continued throughout the Men’s section, with convincing wins in most sets. Warrack Gold’s Chris Kellett and Shaune Winsall managed to snag one their way, winning a tie-breaker.

The result of the Men’s section was Arkona 5 sets to Warrack Gold 1.

The Women’s section was a closer affair but Arkona couldn’t finish the night with a clean sweep, with Warrack Gold winning this section four sets to two.

The Arkona men were strong with Mitchell Jorgenson, Russell Hunter and Gordon Klinge all three set winners for the night, and Warrack Gold’s Lauren Kellett was their only three-set winner.

The game between Dimboola and Jeparit was shaping up to be a tussle, with Jeparit coming off some close matches in the last few weeks. Underdogs Dimboola managed to get wins in four of their six mixed sets, their best starts all year.

The Men’s section was close, with games only separating the two sides. Jeparit took home the honours winning three sets all, 39-44 games. Bo Smith for Jeparit played well all day winning all three of his sets, while Dimboola’s Jason Revell also won his three sets.

The Women’s section ended up being a one-sided affair when Dimboola finished their day off well claiming five sets to one to take the victory. Only losing the last set in a tie-breaker. Breanna Eldridge and Kate Clark impressed for Dimboola winning all three sets.

Rainbow travelled to Hopetoun on Saturday to try and upset last year’s premiers and with weather conditions holding up farmers with their harvest, it was hoped to be a tight battle.

Surprisingly it wasn’t to be as Hopetoun were convincing winners in all sections, remarkably not dropping a set for the day.

The loss has dropped Rainbow one spot on the ladder and Hopetoun continue to battle Antwerp for second place.

The final game of the weekend was another highly anticipated result with second-placed Antwerp taking on fourth-placed Brim at Dimboola on Saturday.

Unfortunately, Brim couldn’t match Antwerp in any section for the day, with Seth Keam and Hannah Liersch winning their only set for the day.

This result tightens up the ladder now with only half a point separating positions four to six.

Next weekend there is no tennis with a scheduled association bye.
