Cricket | Warriors set another challenging target in B grade
The B grade West Wimmera Warriors set a challenging total on the first day of their two-day game against Homers, and in the C grade the Warriors endured a loss in a Twenty20 game against Laharum.

B grade

At Davis Park in Nhill, the Warriors were put in to bat when the Homers’ captain won the toss and an opening partnership of 55 between Nathan Alexander (29) and Mitch Dahlenburg (44) set the tone for the innings.

Luke Smith (49) missed a half century by one run but combined with Aaron Cramer (33) in a 67 run partnership for the sixth wicket to keep the run scoring going after three wickets fell between 87 and 101.

Josh Cramer also contributed 33 runs late in the innings to help take the team total to 238 when he was the last batsman dismissed, in the last over of the day’s play.

If Homers are to win the game, they will need to post their highest total for this season against the strong Warriors’ bowling attack next Saturday afternoon.

C Grade

The C grade team travelled to Laharum for a Twenty20 game and after losing the toss were invited to take the field first.

Some tight bowling restricted the home team to just over four runs per over throughout their innings, with Liam Albrecht the best of the Warriors’ bowlers with two wickets, and Bailey Zimmermann and Shane Gusman taking one each.

Chasing a total of 87 for the win, the loss of an early wicket did not slow the scoring with Brady Alexander leading the batting with an inning high of 28, but by the end of the twenty overs, he was the only one to have made double figures.

The lower order batsmen held out until the end of the twentieth over, but with only 54 runs of the board, the Warriors finished 33 runs short of victory.

Next week will be another Twenty20 game when the Horsham Saints travel to Sir Robert Menzies Park in Jeparit to take on the Warriors.
