The cost of sending a letter will increase next week as Australia Post makes the first change to the value of a postage stamp in five years.

From Thursday 2nd January 2020 a regular letter will cost $1.10, up from the current $1.00.

In 2015 the cost increased by a much larger amount - going from 70 cents to $1.

Concession Stamps will remain at their current prices - a booklet of five stamps costing $3 - and seasonal greeting cards will also still cost 65 cents to send.

In line with the cost of a letter increasing to $1.10, larger letters up to 500g will go up too - costing $2.20, $3.30 or $5.50, depending on size and mass.

Australia Post’s proposal to increase this cost was submitted to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission in August 2019 with the final decision by the ACCC being announced early December.
