Tomorrow, Friday 3 January 2020, has been declared a day of TOTAL FIRE BAN for the Wimmera, South West, North East, and East Gippsland districts, with very high fire danger predicted over the whole state.

Temperatures across the Wimmera are forecast to reach 40 degrees.

Residents are encouraged to be aware of the conditions throughout the day and remain hydrated in the hot conditions and to assist any family, friends, and neighbours who may be vulnerable in these conditions.

Whilst the east of the state is experiencing major bushfire activity, currently the most significant blazes in the Wimmera are occurring in the Big Desert 41 kilometres north north-west of Yanac in the vicinity of the Murrayville Track.

Two fires are in this area are listed as contained but are producing some smoke that can be seen from nearby locations.

Forest Fire Management Victoria note that there is currently no threat to communities, but residents should continue to stay informed and monitor conditions.
