Congratulations to the Nhill Aviation Heritage Centre, whose 2019 Nhill Air Show was this afternoon awarded the Hindmarsh Shire Council’s Community Event of the Year Award.

Mayor Rob Gersch congratulated the NAHC and acknowledged the magnitude of the event they delivered.

“On behalf of Council, I congratulate the Nhill Aviation Heritage Centre as a very worthy recipient of the Community Event of the Year.

“Any event that attracts nearly 3,000 people from across Australia to Nhill for an event of this magnitude can only be considered as an outstanding success,” Cr Gersch said.

“Of particular relevance was the outstanding way the event was handled as a result of the adverse weather experienced on the day that required the rearrangement of entertainment, food stalls etc. and of course the flying events.”

The 100 Years of Aviation – 2019 Nhill Air Show was held on Saturday 2nd November and brought an incredible range of aircraft to the region.

Favourites included the Wolf Pitts Pro - an aerobatic biplane, the Italian Marchetti jet and a P51 Mustang.
The Nhill Aviation Heritage Centre is based at the Nhill Aerodrome, the site of a RAAF training base during World War II and is a tribute to more than 10,000 men and women who trained at the site.

A dedicated team of volunteers work to maintain the museum, which houses an almost completely rebuilt Avro Anson, a fully rebuilt Wirraway, a flying Tiger Moth and an operational Link Trainer flight simulator.
