As National Volunteer Week is celebrated across Australia from today until Sunday, Hindmarsh Shire Council extends its thanks and acknowledges the tremendous work volunteers do within the shire and broader region.

Hindmarsh Shire Council Mayor, Cr Rob Gersch said “With approximately 250 community groups and organisations throughout Hindmarsh Shire, the role of volunteers is never to be underestimated. Words cannot adequately express the gratitude that myself, fellow Councillors and staff at Hindmarsh Shire Council wish to convey to all volunteers”

“Hindmarsh Shire has a tremendous reputation of volunteer involvement across a broad range of sectors from running sporting clubs, church committees, kindergarten and school parents and friends, emergency and health services and a wide range of events, activities and entertainment functions to name a few” said Cr Gersch.

“Volunteers carry out their roles selflessly and without expectation of recognition or reward so it is imperative that Council recognises all volunteers within the shire. Thank you” added Cr Gersch.

Above - Volunteers fill many roles in our community, which includes preparing and serving breakfast at the Jeparit Australia Day function.

Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, the role of volunteers across the shire has been greatly reduced but with the gradual lifting of restrictions, it will be good to see volunteers doing what they do best – making the lives of those in need better, providing skills and expertise to the benefit of the community and of course, time.
