Dimboola has again put its foot forward to be nominated as finalists for ten entries in the Keep Victoria Beautiful Sustainable Communities Tidy Town awards in 2020.

This year, despite the lockdown, Dimboola submitted eleven entries for the Tidy Towns Awards and ten have moved into the next stage of the awards.

In the Community category, the Hindmarsh Shire Youth Council has been nominated for the Travis Price Mural (above) in Dimboola and the Dimboola Rowing Club has been nominated for the pontoon at the rowing shed.

Dimboola Memorial Secondary College Hands-on Learning group has been nominated in the Education category for the Fred Lord Memorial Garden at the Dimboola Police Station.

In the Heritage and Culture category, the Dimboola VRI has been nominated for the fence restoration work along Hindmarsh Street as well as the Dimboola RSL for the War Memorial commemorative sign at the gates of the Dimboola Memorial Secondary College.

The recycling centre run by the Dimboola Lions Club has been nominated for the Waste category.

The Peter Taylor Memorial Ski Jump event is a finalist in the Social Well-Being category despite the event been postponed owing to the COVID-19 lockdown. The judges considered the success of the previous event and the anticipated growth for the second event when making their decision.

Our Young Legend nominee Teyha Clarke has made it as a finalist.

Dimboola is also in a finalist for the Tidiest Town award that Dimboola won in 2018.

Dimboola Tidy Town co-ordinator Chris Johnson said that he was pleased with the ten finalists for Dimboola.

“We had some very good entries this year and despite the challenges to get the entries in during lockdown”, he said.

“With the use of technology, we were able to produce videos for the entries and meet the judges via virtual meeting software.”

Beechworth won the 2019 Tidy Town and is this year’s host. The Awards will be presented at the award dinner in Beechworth on September 3 pending the government restrictions otherwise the awards will be a virtual event online.
