For the first time in its 58 year history, the Wimmera Machinery Field Days scheduled for March next year have been cancelled.

First held in 1963, this event has been held every year since regardless of droughts, floods, and downturns in the agricultural sector, but the current uncertain times have led to the had decision being made to cancel next year’s event

In a statement issued on Friday, the WMFD committee announced that “The Wimmera Machinery Field Days was the last major agricultural field days to be held in 2020 prior to COVID-19 restrictions.

“We were looking forward to being the first major agricultural field days for next year coming off the back of what is looking to be yet another great farming season for in the Wimmera.

“Unfortunately COVID-19 has had, and will continue to have, a significant impact on the major events industry and trying to forge ahead for March next year presented high risk and uncertainty.

Not only does this remove one of the largest events from the Wimmera calendar, but will take away an important opportunity for exhibitors to show off their products, but it is an annual opportunity for local sporting clubs and other organisations to provide services such as catering and gate officials which earns much-needed funds.
The WMFD committee will now be focussing on making the next Field Days a huge success for everyone.

We look forward to seeing you at the 59th Wimmera Machinery Field Days in March 2022.
This event has joined many others to have been cancelled this year and into 2021 due to the current situation, including all local shows, community sports including football, netball and hockey, and the Lucindale Field Days that also announced the cancellation of their 2021 event earlier this week, after also not being able to be held this year either.
