A postal by-election will be held this December for East Ward within Hindmarsh Shire Council.

The by-election was triggered when only one nomination was received for the two vacancies for East Ward in the recent Hindmarsh Shire Council general election.

Nominations to stand as a candidate for the Hindmarsh Shire Council East Ward by-election open on Thursday 29th October and close at 12 noon on Wednesday 4th November.

Electoral Commissioner Warwick Gately is encouraging anyone interested in representing their local community to nominate and reminded prospective candidates to check their eligibility before nominating.

“The eligibility requirements for candidates have changed. If you are thinking about standing for election, make sure to confirm your eligibility and complete the mandatory online candidate training before lodging your nomination. This includes candidates who are currently or have previously been a councillor,” Mr Gately said.

Anyone interested in nominating is encouraged to visit the VEC website to make themselves aware of the requirements.
