Work is continuing on the upgrade of the railway line between Dimboola to Rainbow, with crews currently working at several locations along the line.

These works commenced at the Rainbow end of the line several weeks ago, and when complete will allow the current 25 kph speed limit to be raised in time for the upcoming harvest, speeding up the transport of grain out of the Graincorp sites at Rainbow and Jeparit.

Stacks of new sleepers, both concrete and timber, along with piles of ballast have been appearing at regular intervals along the line and the work to deliver these by road has progressed to Antwerp by Thursday morning.

Once the sleepers have been stockpiled at locations along the line, another crew is then laying them out beside the tracks ready to be installed, and this work has made it as far as just south of Jeparit.

The most activity is currently occurring at the main worksite between Ellam and Pullut where the old sleepers are being removed and the new ones put in place and the ballast reprofiled.

Much of the work is being undertaken using excavators equipped with rail wheels which are more difficult to see on the tracks compared to a full train, so motorists are encouraged to continue to be vigilant at level crossings over the next few weeks.
