Inclement weather played havoc with round five of the Horsham Cricket Association seaosn on Saturday, with seven of the ten senior games over A, B, and C grades abandoned.

Three of the four games in the B grade did not go ahead, including the Blackheath-Dimboola v. Rupanyup-Minyip game which was to be played on The Park at Dimboola, and all three games in the C grade cancelled, including the West Wimmera Warriors’ away clash with Laharum.

The only local team to take to the field was the West Wimmera Warriors’ A grade team that met Jung Tigers on the Horsham City Oval in a twilight one day match.

Upon winning the toss, Warriors’ captain chose to bat and opening batsman Nathan Alexander took full advantage of the opportunity to dominate the innings, scoring 103 of the team’s total of 8 for 216.

Above - Nathan Alexander had a good game with both the bat and the ball against Jung Tigers, with Warriors’ first triple-figure score for the season and two wickets.

Other significant contributions to the Warriors’ big total included 36 by Trevor Polkinghorne, 29 by Bradley Alexander and 14 each from the bats of Liam Preston and Henry Smith.

The Jung Tigers’ innings started with Nathan Alexander also shining with the ball, dismissing both openers by the time they had scored 21, but this was overshadowed by Henry Smith who finished with four wickets when he wrapped up their innings for a team total of 129, 87 runs short.

In between, Austin Merrett also took two wickets, and Austin Smith took one.

In the field, Liam Preston took two catches.

Next week round six will see the A grade Warriors will again travel to the Horsham City Oval to take on ladder-leaders Noradjuha Toolondo Bullants who registered a narrow win over Rupanyup-Minyip in the only other game in this grade to go ahead this weekend.

The C grade team have another week off as they are scheduled to have the bye.

The Blackheath-Dimboola Bulls will meet the current leading team in their division, Lubeck-Murtoa on the local ground, in a game where a good result could see them return to the top two on the ladder.
