Another all-round performance by the A grade West Wimmera Warriors gave them a narrow victory over Noradjuha Toolondo Bullants on the Horsham City Oval.

Taking the opportunity to bat first after winning the toss, the Warriors posted a total of 141 for the loss of eight wickets from their forty overs.

The two highest individual scores came in the middle order, with Josh Lees making an innings high 36 and Liam Preston 30 when they combined for a partnership of 71 for the sixth wicket, Mitch Dahlenburg (24) and Nathan Alexander (19) got the team off to a good start with an opening stand of 37.

With the Bullants only requiring thee and a half runs per over to overhaul this target, the Warriors’ bowlers and fielders needed to play at their best to finish ahead.

An opening stand of 53 by the Bullants had them off to a positive start before a couple of wickets got the Warriors back on track, but when they fell from 3 for 95 to 8 for 118, the game really swung in the Warriors favour.

Fourteen runs more for the ninth wicket took the Bullants to within six runs of victory.

Nathan Alexander broke this partnership with the help of a catch by Lees, and Alexander then combined with Preston to run out the last Bullant batsman off the second last ball of their allotted overs to finish with a three-run Warriors’ victory.

Four bowlers, Nathan Alexander, Austin Smith, Bradley Alexander, and Preston, finished the innings with two wickets each and they were backed up b their fielders who held nine catches.

Next weekend round seven will be the last before a three week break, and the Warriors have the opportunity to go into the new year on the top of the ladder if they score a win against Jung Tigers when they meet on Davis Park on Saturday afternoon.

Fresh off the bye last weekend, the C grade team will travel to Dudley Cornell Park in Horsham to take on Colts, with the prize for the winner the top place on the ladder going into the break.
