It was the perfect start to 2021 for both the Dimbooal First and Second Division teams in Wimmera Weekend Pennant Bowls with both registering significant victories.

The First Division team travelled to Horsham to play the third-placed Coughlin Park in what was a must-win match.

The resulting 27 shot win 87-60 has put Dimboola only just outside the top four with the game next week against Horsham Golf the most crucial game of the season where a victory could see Dimboola in the third position on the ladder.

The side of Daniel Danisch, Geoff Gazelle, Cliff Unger, and Darryl Both had a great 14 shot win 33 to 19. After getting off to a strong start, the side held off a halfway comeback from Coughlin Park to regroup and record a decisive win.

The side of Peter O’Loughlin, Wayne Albrecht, Ron Gaulke and Merv Roberts also got off to a good start and kept the pressure on their Coughlin Park opponents going on to another 14 shot win 31 to 17.

Rob Pyers, Greg Cook, Judith Albrecht and Shannon Williams were well down at one stage but fought back going down by only 1 shot in a nailbiter, 23 to 24.

Second Division had the big trip to Goroke in another must-win game and came away winning by 9 shots 83 to 74.

The team of Josh Cook, Rob Clark, Ian Barry and Bill Eldridge had a healthy 10 shot win; 27 to 17.

The side of Alan Krahe, John Moar, Bob Gooding and Bryan Beattie ended up winning by 7 shots after letting a big lead slip before regrouped to win 35 to 28.

Max Pilmore, Max Walker, Rick Danisch and Darryl Argall went down to a strong Goroke side 21 to 29 in a good effort.

This result leaves the Second Division team also only just outside the top four with the game next week against Horsham City 3 very important.

The teams for next week will be posted on the club notice board.
