With one round of the regular season in the Dimboola and District Tennis Association remaining before the finals, the minor premiers are yet to be crowned, with only half a point separating the two top teams.
Hopetoun currently sits atop the ladder with 50.5 points, with Antwerp close behind on 50 points. If a disaster were to strike the top two teams, Warrack Gold is still mathematically in with a chance of snatching top place, but only if neither Antwerp and Hopetoun earn any points and they earns the full five points on offer when they play Jeparit.
Warrack Gold’s negative is that Antwerp and Hopetoun will go into their matches as favourites when they take on Brim and Rainbow respectively.
Fourth-placed Jeparit leads Arkona by five points, with two exciting battles this weekend when Jeparit plays host to Warrack Gold and Arkona plays Dimboola.
In Round 13, last weekend started on Friday evening with Antwerp playing hosts to Arkona.
Friday night’s mixed section was won by Antwerp with 4 sets, 43 games to Arkona 1 set, 24 games. The Antwerp Men were strong winning 4 sets, 44 games to Arkona 1 sets, 23 games. The Antwerp Ladies also very strong with 5 sets, 45 games to Arkona 0 sets, 12 games. The overall score was Antwerp with 5 match points, 13 sets, 132 games to Arkona 0 match points, 2 sets, 59 games.
Also on Friday night Dimboola were host to Rainbow.
Rainbow narrowly won the Mixed with 3 sets, 30 games to Dimboola 2 sets, 29 games. The Rainbow Men won 4 sets, 49 games to Dimboola 2 sets, 36 games. However, the Dimboola Ladies were stronger with 3 sets, 31 games to Rainbow 1 set, 21 games. The overall score was Rainbow with 4 match points, 8 sets, 100 games to Dimboola 1 match point, 7 sets, 96 games.
On Saturday, Brim were host to Warrack Gold. The Warrack Mixed won 6 sets, 54 games to Brim 0 set, 21 games. The Warrack Men were stronger winning 4 sets, 44 games to Brim 2 sets, 36 games. The Warrack Ladies also played a very strong match-winning theirs 6 sets, 54 games to Brim 0 sets, 21 games. The overall score was Warrack Gold with 5 match points, 16 sets, 152 games to Brim 0 match point, 2 sets, 78 games.
Also on Saturday, Hopetoun hosted Jeparit. Hopetoun won their Mixed match 5 sets, 49 games to Jeparit 1 set, 19 games. The Hopetoun Men had a strong win with 5 sets, 53 games to Jeparit 1 set, 25 games. The Hopetoun Ladies had a strong win with 6 sets, 54 games to Jeparit 0 sets, 9 games. The overall score was Hopetoun with 5 match points, 16 sets, 156 games to Jeparit 0 match points, 5 sets, 53 games.
Next weekend will be the last round before the start of the semi-finals. There will be a break for the Long Weekend, and the 1st and 2nd semi-finals will be held on Saturday 13th March.
The grand final will be held on Saturday 20th March, 2021.
