|The Blackheath-Dimboola Bulls 2020/21 season will be on the line next Saturday when they host Horsham Saints.
After a struggle to field eleven players against Colts on Saturday, the Bulls did not get the points and now must win next weekend to confirm a place in the Horsham Cricket Association B grade semi-finals.
On the Dimboola Recreation Reserve on Saturday afternoon, the Colts captain took the opportunity to bat first, and his team posted a total of 8 for 181 from their forty overs.
Six Bulls’ bowlers were used, and it was Brent Tough who took the most wickets, with three. Openers Sam Polack and Brodie Cramer took two each, and Daniel Polack took the other to fall.
Darren Jones had a good day in the field, holding three catches.
The Polack brothers got the run chase off to a good start, contributing 39 before the first wicket fell, which was Daniel for 20. First-drop Brodie Cramer made 21, and the innings-high score was 23 made by Archie Watt, his highest score for the team.
Unfortunately, despite three other batsmen making double figures, including Sam Polack (16), Greg O’Connor (13), and Lee Marra (12), the last batsman was dismissed in the 38th over, with the team still 58 runs behind the target.
The Bulls finished this round in third place on the ladder but are equal on points with Laharum in fourth place and Lubeck-Murtoa in fifth place, so only a win next weekend will ensure they progress to the semi-finals the following week. A loss will still keep them in the mix, but only if one of these other teams also suffers a loss.
One encouraging point for the Bulls is that their opponent next week, Horsham Saints, are currently on the bottom of the ladder with only one win but could stage an upset if they are not taken seriously.
