|At a meeting on Wednesday evening, delegates from the six clubs that make up the Wimmera Hockey Association work on a plan to bring their 2021 season to a conclusion.
With the semi-finals that were scheduled to be played this Saturday unable to go ahead due to the current lockdown, it was decided that if restrictions allow, the season will be concluded with grand finals involving the top two teams in each of the Open, Women’s, and Under 16 competitions to decide the 2021 premiers. These games will take place at Kaniva as originally planned.
If these games go ahead, the Yanac Tigers will meet the Warrack Hoops in the Open grand final, Yanac will play Kaniva in the Women’s, and Yanac Warriors will meet the Horsham Bombers.
Earlier this week, both of the local Football-Netball leagues announced the plans for their seasons.
The Wimmera Football-Netball League announced four scenarios depending upon which weekend community sport can recommence, with a cut off date of 2 October, after which their season will be declared over and no winners crowned.
With each weekend that passes without play, fewer teams will be involved, so depending upon which option goes ahead, Dimboola teams may take part in the Seniors (finished 5th), Reserves (5th), and Under 14 (5th) in the football, and the A Grade (3rd), B Grade - (4th), 17 & Under (3rd), and 15 & Under A (4th).
The Horsham District Football-Netball League remains committed to completing their finals if the State Government restrictions allow, focusing on junior players returning when possible.
They have set a season conclusion date of Sunday, 3 October, but if regional Victoria is still in lockdown on Tuesday, 21 September with no end date announced, their senior season will be cancelled.
The fixture for their finals will be announced once it can be confirmed that they will go ahead.
Pimpinio teams potentially involved include Reserves (6th) and Under 17 (2nd) footballers, and C Grade (5th), C Reserve (5th), 17 & Under (2nd), 15 & Under (1st), and 13 & Under (1st), and Jeparit-Rainbow teams that may take part includes their senior footballers (5th), A Grade netballers (5th), and 15 & Under netballers (5th).
