The A grade West Wimmera Warriors cricket team enjoyed their first win for the season on Saturday, and the C grade team continued their undefeated start to the 2021/22 Horsham Cricket Association season.

A Grade - West Wimmera Warriors 5/166 (45 overs)(M Dahlenburg 68, L Albrecht 40) defeated Rupanyup-Minyip 64 (32.5 overs)(B Alexander 3/10, A Merrett 2/11)

The Warriors’ A grade team broke through for their first win for the 2021/22 season, and in the process, have moved into the top four.

Having been in a comfortable position last time they met Rupayup-Minyip in a game abandoned due to the weather, they comfortably defeated this opponent by 102 runs on Saturday, with Mitch Dahlenburg and Liam Albrecht dominating with the bat and Brad Alexander with the ball.

Batting first, Dahlenburg opened the innings and followed up his first half-century for the season the previous weekend against the Bullants, carried his bat and finished not out on 68 at the end of their 45 overs.

Albrecht came in at the fall of the fifth wicket and finished not out on 40, scored off 35 balls and included six boundaries to help set the total of 166 for the loss of 5 wickets.

The Panther’s run chase started confidently, but their first wicket partnership of 26 proved to be their most productive, with wickets regularly falling after this until they had lost all ten wickets for the addition of just another 38 runs, to be all dismissed for 64.

The leading Warriors’ bowler was Brad Alexander, who finished with three wickets for ten runs from five overs, and Austin Merrett took 2 for 11. Four other bowlers shared the remaining four wickets, as Rupanyup-Minyip could only field ten players.

With this victory, the Warriors have risen to fourth on the ladder, and they have the chance to make up some ground on the second-placed Jung Tigers next Saturday when they meet on Davis Park.

C Grade - Lubeck-Murtoa 133 (36.3 overs)(K Kuchel 3/7, B McQueen 2/22, N Sparling 2/24) lost to West Wimmera Warriors 5/137 (31.2 overs)(D Schneider 37, N Sparling 32)

On the Lubeck Recreation Reserve, the C grade Warriors continued their impressive early-season form, with their fifth win from as many matches when they overcame the home team by five wickets.

After winning the toss, the Warriors’ captain asked Lubeck-Murtoa to bat first, and after several significant partnerships to open the innings, the last eight wickets fell at regular intervals. They had just 133 runs in the scorebook when the last batter was dismissed in the 37th over.

Three wickets to Kyle Kuchel and two each to Drew Schneider and Bailey McQueen led the bowling for the Warriors.

A shaky start to the run-chase saw the loss of four wickets for 44 runs, but a fifth-wicket partnership between Schneider (37) and Nathan Sparling yielded 38 runs, and the next pairing of Sparling, who finished on 32 not out, and Jeevan George (18 not out) scored 55 runs to see the team safely pass the target in the 32nd over.

This Saturday, the team will travel to the Sunnyside Recreation Reserve in Horsham to take on Homers, who currently have one win from five games.

Both of the Blackheath-Dimboola senior teams had a bye last weekend, and they will resume on Saturday when the B grade take on Colts at Dudley Cornell Park in Horsham, and the C grade team hosts Quantong on the turf pitch at Dimboola.
