Round three of the Dimboola and District Tennis Association kicked off on Friday night, October 18. Reigning premier Brim travelled down the highway to tackle Arkona at Dimboola, with two other games also scheduled for the night.
The night was fairly windy for tennis, but all teams needed to adapt to the conditions to get the upper hand.
In the Arkona vs. Brim game, it was a convincing win for Brim to kick off the night. In the Mixed, some good tennis games were played, with Brim coming out on top, winning with 5 sets, 45 games to 0 sets, 17 games.
Brim’s Men were in unstoppable form downing Arkona 5 sets, 45 games to 0 sets, 21 games with some good rallies played.
In the Women, Brim was also in commanding form, easily defeating Arkona 5 sets, 45 games to 0 sets, 14 games.
The overall result was Brim 5 match points, 15 sets, 135 games to Arkona 0 match points, 0 sets, 52 games.
Also on Friday night, Rainbow was the host to Dimboola. This game was played with four men and four women on the night.
The Mixed Rainbow were off to a very good start, winning all but one of the sets. The score was 3 sets, 29 games to 1 set, 18 games.
In the Men Rainbow also combined extremely well and played consistent tennis to have a good win. 3 sets, 31 games to Dimboola 1 set 19 games.
The Ladies was a ripping contest with honours fairly even but Dimboola having a close win by 2 games, 2 sets, 27 games to Rainbow 2 sets, 25 games.
The overall score was Rainbow 4 match points, 8 sets, 85 games to Dimboola 1 match point, 4 sets, 64 games.
The last game on Friday night saw fourth-placed Hopetoun looking to upset top team Antwerp and keep Brim, who are just outside the top four, at bay.
Hopetoun won all the sets in the Mixed and gained an early advantage over their rivals. The score was Hopetoun 5 sets, 45 games to Antwerp 0 sets, 25 games.
The Men had a closer encounter, with Hopetoun narrowly defeating Antwerp 3 sets, 38 games to 2 sets, 25 games.
In the Women, Antwerp was able to assert its authority and win a good match over Hopetoun, 4 sets 40 games to 1 set 37 games, but it was not quite doing enough to win overall.
The final score was Hopetoun 4 match points, 9 sets, 120 games to Antwerp 1 match point, 6 sets, 90 games.
On Saturday, in the final match of the weekend, Warrack welcomed Jeparit to Anzac Park. Warrack, which has started the season well, will be looking to continue its good form.
In the Mixed, Warrack came out on top, with Jeparit only winning one set: Warrack 5 sets, 51 games to Jeparit 1 set, 25 games.
The Warrack Men were dominant, winning all of the sets, 6 sets, 54 games to Jeparit 0 sets, 24 games.
In the Women’s match, it was a very good contest on the day. Both sides won 3 sets, and there was only a 7-game difference between the two teams. Warrack won 3 sets, 40 games, to Jeparit’s 3 sets, 33 games.
The overall score was Warrack 5 match points 14 sets, 125 games to Jeparit 0 match points 4 sets, 82 games.
